I recently made a time-lapse video to highlight the scale of wildfires in Australia with high resolution. To produce it, I used 3,600 images from the Himawari-8 geostationary satellite, which cover a period from 2019-12-12 to 2020-01-07. You can download Himawari-8 data from The Regional and Mesoscale Meteorology Branch (RAMMB) of NOAA/NESDIS. The endless mesmerizing movement of clouds can distract you but focus on the reddish smoke of large forest fires that even reached New Zealand. The smoke traces can be seen in the southeast corner of the continent, especially in the end of the video.
